A Study on Statistical Approach for Health Education Program Development for The Elderly¢¥s Low Extremity Strengthening

Abstract
This study was purposed to develop a health education program for the elderly¢¥s low extremity strengthening. As the majority of dependency and activity limitation problems are caused by weakeness on low extremities with marrow-range of motion, the elderly should be educated to strengthening their low extremities for extending independency of their daily living activities.
In order to provide basis of the education program development, activity dependency status, range of motion, and experiences and expectations on health education for the elderly were measured with other general health status.
Direct Measurement Methods were applied for this study with questions. The dependency was measured with direct observation using the Barthel ADL Index. Goniometric measurement on the Range of Motion(ROM) was calculated from a neutral zero degree starting position. The health education experience and expectations were asked with interview questions.
The major findings shown that flexion range motion was more limited than extension. The limited motion were appeared severe damage on ADL dependency using low extremities such as walking and go up and down stairs. The ROM was significantly explained by positive regressions with ADL. Exercise frequency and health education experiences, but shown negatives with smoking habits in terms of its quantities. ADL also shown significant positive regressions with mental health status and ROM. The elderly responsed 23.9% of the responded had experiences of health education the major contents of education were skewed towards disease treatment and pathology, but preferred to heaared about general health care and promotion 55.9% of the elderly responsed had Physical therapy experiences, and the major therapy was put on low extenmities(39.45) and back(33.3%) parts. Among the never experienced also responsed their needs for the physical therapv on low extremities(19.7%), back(10.65), and general body(13.4%). etc.
e objective of this study was to analyze the trend of sex ratio at birth by regions from the vitae statistics of National Statistical Offices during 15 years(1980-1994). The sex ratios in total of registered birth(1980-94) were 114.06 in kyoungsang region, 109.60 in Seoul, 108.86 in Kyonggi 107.79 in kangwon, 110.58 in chungchong and 108.32 in Cholla.
The regression analysis showed a statistically significant linear trend in all regions(P£¼0.001) : Sex ratio = a £« b1(time) £« b2(January) £« .. £« b11(November). The slope of sex ratio trends during the period was higher in Kyoungsang region and lower in Cholla region. The variation between yearly mean sex ratio and calendar month sex ratio showed a slight decline from 1980 to 1994. The variation of those was higher in Kangwon and lower in Seoul.
